The viewer can configure in the Keyshot real-time rendering animation and immediately see the result. This makes the website or the trade fair appearance much more attractive and popular because the visitor can become active himself! Below are some initial sculpts and I will continue to add more as I progress on this new endeavor.Interactive Real-Time-Rendering-Animation with KeyShot.ģD product presentations bring a product to life on every website and generate additional interest. I am excited to be able to combine this with traditional 3D modeling techniques and rendering to help achieve that final aspect of reproducing realism. drawing in 2D and has been in the back of my mind ever since.ĭuring the Fall of 2020, I began my digital sculpting journey with Nomad Sculpt, a lightweight digital sculpting app on the iPad and as I gain proficiency over the basic tools, I will continue this endeavor into Zbrush. It made sense since it added a layer of tactility that I feel when I am 3D modeling vs. One mentioned how they couldn’t get Loki’s horns right from drawing until they started sculpting it in Zbrush. The modeling methodology was in stark contrast to the parametric modeling that I had been doing for over a decade, using a stylus to shape something more akin to a ball of clay.Īt SIGGRAPH, I attended a panel where Marvel Visual Development concept artists spoke about their 2D workflow and I was surprised that so many of these illustrators made use of 3D modeling to develop their character and costume concepts. This would be the last step to creating organic objects found in nature, creatures, animals, and human figures. The images and videos here chart my progress as I explore various tutorials and techniques in order to learn the software.Īs I have been pushing towards the edges of 3D modeling and rendering, the next natural step for me to capture photorealism in was in digital sculpting. My desire is to leverage Blender’s simulation and animation capabilities to be able to depict not just static 3D objects, but to be able to show how they may deform or change over time. However, with its industry leading updates, wealth of shared information and tutorials, and appealing price of free, much of my learning has been with Blender but translates to other software like Cinema 4D. My goal is to remain program agnostic and to be able to apply general modeling and rendering concepts across platforms. I ultimately decided to learn mesh-based modeling programs like Modo and Blender, which can more accurately depict organic objects like plants and animals, or irregular objects like cloth and clothing. I was inspired to learn how I could push the boundaries of 3D modeling beyond typical CAD programs that typically depict fairly simple geometric forms that can be manufactured. I was able to see how industry leaders used CG to enhance movies, video games, and animation, but also saw how it was accelerated product design with extremely fast design iteration, seamless use of digital doubles for manufacturing and marketing materials, and how AR and VR experiences would blur the lines between the digital and physical. In 2019, I had the opportunity to fly out to Los Angeles to attend SIGGRAPH, a conference showcasing the latest in computer graphics and interactive technologies.
